Tours begin at the Scotsman General Store on select Fridays at 3pm. Check in with the General Store Front Desk to get your pass. The tour covers the story of revitalization in Laurel from Jim Rasberry, HGTV Home Town personality and co-star of “ HGTV Inn This Together”.
Ride in the comfort of a luxury 9 passenger Sprinter van equipped with complimentary drinks and snacks. Tour includes downtown commercial district, residential historic district, and ride to the outskirts of Laurel to see Jim and Mallorie’s country cabin near the Desoto National Forest.
Total tour time is approximately 2.5 hours.
What’s Included?
We begin with a ride through the historic streets of downtown Laurel where Jim tells the history of Laurel’s bustling commercial district through the years. He then discusses the challenges the team faced during the revitalization efforts that began in 2006 and how a community of visionaries and doers helped build back a forgotten downtown.
From there, we move into the residential area of Laurel and get a glimpse of the homes and places that mean the most to Jim and what makes living in Laurel so special.
When the cameras turn off and the lights get packed up, we know community is what matters most. Jim shares the Laurel that he knows and loves with each tour.
Jim saves the best for last as he takes you on a short trip into rural Jones County where you’ll tour the Rasberry Farm.
Here you will have a chance to stretch your legs, enjoy the fresh air and enjoy a snack and refreshment on the front porch overlooking the fishing pond where generations have learned to fish, tell tall tales, and enjoy the simple things in life.
Feel free to take a walk through the young long leaf pine stands, fish for bluegill, or just relax on the front porch as Jim and his team offer up a history lesson of the land and the generations that came before us.
